A few months ago I pointed out some sale fares to Amsterdam to HB, I may have further enticed him by highlighting the fact that the Amsterdam Marathon was well within the sale travel period. We spent quite a bit of time researching different fares and the sale fares came and went along with the majority of my interest.
That was until I got a message from HB a few weeks ago letting me know he had booked a trip to Europe … Wait, What, When?!
This is the first trip he has booked on his own accord for 10 years. I now know the key to his wanderlust heart – RUN.
I have never been to Europe and I am still pinching myself every day that this is actually happening.
We fly into Lisbon first and we are running the Rock ‘N Roll Marathon (me the half marathon).
We’ve been super keen to try out one of the infamous Rock ‘n Roll events, music played all along the course and a finish line concert at the end.
Who knew running could also be fun?!
A few days later we will fly to Barcelona. No plans except to fuel on tapas, tapas and more tapas and more walking and exploring.
Then we are hoping to catch the train into France. Here we will run a half marathon in Saint Dennis.
From France, we will catch the train to London and there is a 5km charity event run on in Victoria Park.
I have carefully chosen races which all have bling and if all goes to plan I will be bringing 3 medals home!!
Bling it on!
After London, we will take the overnight ferry and party hard in Amsterdam for a few days before we return home.
We aren’t taking any of the kids with us and I’m really not sure what we will do with all that kid-free time on our hands. We’ve had just one weekend away from Maggie in 4 years and the majority of that was spent running a marathon in Sydney. Oh and we had a night off when we were in Perth in April.
What is this motherguilt you speak of?
We are taking a leaf out of the books of the French: put yourself and your marriage first for a change and the rest of your life just flows. I’ll let you know if it works. I may need to test it out on a few trips first though.
I think Airbnb is about to become our new best friend and if you have any accommodation tips or places to see we would love to hear them.
